As every year the characters dressed in red with hood and whips run through the streets of Texistepeque, San Salvador, to achieve the goal of whipping those who are in their way. 35 children, young people and adults represented these peculiar characters called Talcigüines or “Endemoniados”.
The Talcigüines, which represent evil, appear every Holy Monday in that municipality, participate in the mass, and at the end they go out to whip everyone who find themselves in their way.
During the festival, many visitors from different parts of the country come to Texistepeque to witness the performance and be whipped by Talcigüines, since that lash will cleanse their sins and purify their souls, tradition says.
