The first violent act carried out by criminal groups that put the world’s attention in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, was the shootout between members of the Sinaloa Cartel and the Tijuana Cartel.

Early on November 8, 1992, an armed command of the Sinaloa Cartel was ordered to assassinate the brothers Ramón and Francisco Javier Arellano Felix, leaders of the Tijuana Cartel who were in the Christine nightclub in Puerto Vallarta.
The order to kill them had been given by Joaquín ‘El Chapo Guzmán’ and Héctor Luis ‘El Güero’ Palma in revenge for the car bomb that the Arellano Felix blew up on May 29 of that year in one of the properties of the cartel leader Sinaloa.
Although the Arellano Felix brothers managed to flee in the nightclub incident, six people died and three others were injured.
