The largest sculptural work in the state of Veracruz, the monument, El Colotero, is damaged by moisture and oxidation, which have fractured the metal structure about 15 meters high.
The author of the monument, Miguel Vargas Martínez, declared that for political reasons they abandoned the project of restoration of the Colotero, installed in the entrance to the municipality of Alamo Temapache, now, presents serious affectations that put at risk the architectural design.
Most unfortunate, he said, local authorities do not have a budget to repair the steel structure and cement modeling that represents workers, orange cutters, who load the baskets on the back. The Colote is a basket made with reed and leather reinforcements. It is used for the transport of orange, from the place of the cut, to the truck that carries it.
The monument became the symbol of that municipality. The work is located in the main entrance, Quintana Roo street with federal highway, Mexico-Tampico. The monument has a patina finish in old bronze tones, has dimensions, 30 meters long and 15 meters high, is considered the largest sculptural work in the state of Veracruz.
