Moctezuma’s Aviary

In some books written on the conquest of Tenochtitlán, it is read that Moctezuma possessed a great menagerie.

For the conservation of the animals they counted on 300 people who were in charge of his attention. It is also said that Hernán Cortes had this place burned to reaffirm his power.

The 6 of Julio of 1923 begins the construction of the zoo of Chapultepec resuming the prehispanic concept lost in the conquest.

In the next visit to Chapultepec Forest in Mexico City, we recommend to make a stop by the aviary, since you will see a great amount of birds of all the colors and relive the history.
