Ubicated in the municipality of Ensenada, Baja Califonia; the Lagoon is located in the highest zone of the Sierra de Juárez, between the 1,600 and 1,860 m. height.
It is considered an extension of the Sierra Nevada of California, the Hanson Lagoon, is known with this name thanks to its Norwegian buyer, that when dying inherited his appellation to this zone.
The area is densely populated with important species so in 1962 and thanks to its characteristics became the property of the Nation in order to preserve the 5,009 hectares donated by the Ejido Sierra de Juárez.
This natural landscape is a wetland of international interest since appears as a Ramsar Site with more than one hundred species of fauna; reptiles, birds and much more organisms. The weather is a little humid with some rains in summer and in winter it is covered with snow.
